The note at the back of the photograph was for Doanh's parents when he sent this photograph to them. It explained to his parents that he attended a meeting in Ottawa, and introduced the people sat next to him.
Doanh , along with two other Vietnamese newcomers, represented Regina (Sask.) to attend the Vietnamese Canadian Federation meeting in Ottawa. Each province sent their representatives and the meeting was an opportunity for Vietnamese immigrants to form a united voice for the community.
Doanh was with his best friend's parents and cousin on Pulau Bidong island, on his last day at the refugee camp, before he was transferred to Kuala Lumpur to fly to Canada.
A letter of pardon to release D. Nguyen due to his escape from Vietnam by boat in 1978, with a note from the government officer to issue his monthly food quota.
