A group of Vietnamese refugees in front of a flower bush in the garden. Pham waited for 3 days at Palawan airport on standby before being able to fly to Canada. She arrived on July 1, 1983.

At the Puerto Princesa airport in Palawan, Philippines, with other refugees. After being picked up by Le Goelo, Pham stayed in Palawan, Philippines for 11 months before being sponsored to Canada.

In the refugee camp in Pulau Galang, Indonesia, before continuing to Singapore to meet with other groups of refugees. Together they went on to Canada.

Le Goelo was a vessel chartered by the organization Doctors of the World on a humanitarian mission to rescue Vietnamese refugees at sea. Pham was picked up by Le Goelo in the South China Sea.
