Peter da Silva was born in 1937 in Hong Kong when it was a British colony. His paternal side of the family has roots in Macau, which was a former colony of Portugal. (The handover of Hong Kong from Britain to China occurred on July 1, 1997. The handover of Macau from Portugal to China occurred on December 20, 1999).
Peter immigrated to Vancouver on February 19, 1967. He started working at BC Hydro on March 15, 1967 in the Protection and Maintenance Control department where he tested instruments and checked the wiring of electrical structures. He worked in other departments at BC Hydro during his career until he retired after 35 years.
He met his future wife, Rosalina, in Vancouver and they married in 1970. They had two children. Rosalina died in 2023. Peter has three grandchildren.
Peter has an extensive 35 mm slide collection through his photography hobby. The digitization of these images means that his children and grandchildren plus societies or institutions can access his photographs in a modern format.
Peter is happy to be able to share what he saw while growing up in Asia, immigrating to Canada, and travelling the world.
