This document is a news release by the Government of Canada regarding the Canada-Alberta Labour Market Development Agreement. This news release confirms the Government of Canada's commitment to withdraw from labour market training and to seek new partnerships with the provinces and territories in the area of labour market development. The Canada-Alberta Agreement is also the first agreement to be signed, following the proposal by the Government of Canada on May 30, 1996 which offered all provinces and territories the opportunity to take responsibility for the design and delivery of active labour market development measures for Employment Insurance clients. Under the Agreement, the Alberta Department of Advanced Education and Career Development (AECD) will deliver, through a network of Canada-Alberta Service Centres, active employment measures that will help unemployed Albertans get back to work.
