The yy Sim EDITION #1 JANUARY 28, FIRST EDITION Well, this is the first edition that has come from the Tumbler Times. This paper is going to be coming out every other week and will cost 25¢. We, Mark and Derek Stock, will be trying to do our very best. We invite all people with inter- esting stories or news to come forward and bring them to the Times! office located at Lot 138 Pinewood Crescent. THE TUMBLER RIDGE SUPER VALU The Tuffbler Ridge Super Valu opened on January 6, 1983. They must have just about sold out of candy and chips. thing from dog food to milk and bread. It is located right behind the rec. centre. The store is open from 10 AM to 8 PM but not on Sundays. 1983 They have every- TUMBLER RIDGE, B.C. THE TUMBLER RIDGE SCHOOL The Tumbler Ridge School has five classrooms but some more are on the way (3 or more). The school has five teachers. Mrs. Montabello teaches kinder- garten, grade one and grade two. Miss Anderson is the grade three and four teacher. Mr. Pike teaches the grade five and six students. Mr. Pospisil is the grade seven and eight teacher and Mr. Hartford the grade nine and ten teacher. Mr. Wilson is the principal and Mrs. Simard the secretary. They have set up a library. The school can only fit 100 people in how it is now, but the school still only has about 69 people. SLIDING HILL The the the it. the and sliding hill is right past skating rink. Almost all children and some adults use Somebody put pollution on hill. Sand and insulation hay. FIRST ANNUAL TUMBLER RIDGE BROOMBALL TOURNAMENT The first annual Tumbler Ridge broomball tournament was held on the ice rink near the T.R. recreation centre on Saturday, January 22, 1983. In the tournament, each of the six teams got to play three regu- lar games and the four teams with thi highest scores went to the playoffs as long as they had won at least 2 games. On points during regular games, the Construction team was first. Tumbler Ridge was second, Engi- neering third, and Mine Training fourth. The other two teams that didn't qualify for the playoffs were Maintenance and the Oper- ations Staff. In the first playoff guuc, it was Construction vs. Engineering with Engineering winning 1.0 in an ove time shootout. In the second gam: it was Mine Training vs. Tumble: Ridge. Mine Training won 1-0 in r- =| Y an overtime shootout. The final game was played between Mine Training and Engineering with Engineering winning 2-0. The first annual Tumbler Ridge broomball trophy went to QCL Engineering and the most sportsman -like and MVP went to Leslie Kneen.
