an pemM@BRARY oOFPice @rkuers Certain problems and inconveniences have been brought to the attention of your fellow working women. We wish to discuss these with you at a SPECIAL MEETING OF WORKING WOMEN to see if with our combined efforts some of our common problems and frustrations could be helped or even solved. Also, this will hopefully provide meeting possibilities for temporary office workers which could help overcome the difficulty of not being able to talk to each other. Women are beginning to organize to achieve job security, decent wages, facilities like day care, - to make it possible for us to be economically inde- pendent members of this society. YOUR SITUATION AFFECTS ALL WORKING WOMEN Thousands of women, particularly working mothers, are forced to seek temporary and part-time work because of the lack of adequate day care facilities in Vancouver. Thousands more find that they are un- able to find secure permanent work. TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT AGENCTES MAKE PROFIT FROM THE INSECURITY AND LOW WAGES OF WORKING WOMEN. - companies perpetrate low wages and insecurity for all office workers by providing temporary office help making it possible for employers to keep their permanent staff at a minimum. - the company makes HALF and sometimes more of what the employer pays for your labour. - there is no guarantee of hours on an assignment. - little or no benefits, like medical and pension plans - you cannot accept a permanent job from any client of the agency, through an agreement between both the client and the worker. - jobs given to temporary workers are not necessarily what they are qualified for and therefore they are often paid at a lower rave. - increments are almost non-existent. sie osle ke ke oskeoste ke ook ote Reale uouelanstiede ft in Val ou tpn atu ale o nIOmrMle iis ipo aieiat bali vsls oteMinnE nena meals cate as as as 7 “8 Pa as as “Ss as “s on as Paes as as as as “8 “Ss “eS ak “as “fs as ayn os “8 oe COME AND DISCUSS YOUR SITUATION WITH OTHER WORKING WOMEN FRIDAY, MARCH 20, 1970 8-9:30 p.m. 43 West Pender Street, Upstairs Por Turtaur information cali: Brenda Jean Mc.
