ANEW APPRENTICESHIP and NONTRADITIONAL ANEW EMPLOYMENT FOR WOMEN ANEW PLEASE POST This accredited training through Renton Technical College is designed for motivated women who meet income guidelines and are interested in getting into a nontraditional job or apprenticeship program in the trades. To be eligible, you must reside within Seattle or King County and be considered low income under Federal Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) eligibility requirements. This program is targeted for those without a GED or without education beyond high school. Therefore, those with a college degree are not eligible. Two trainings are offered each year: September and February. The training is five months long, meeting from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. You will study trades math, blueprint reading and drawing, mechanical and electrical theory and practice, basic carpentry and construction techniques, and practice these skills on a variety of shop projects. You will also be introduced to working with pipe, concrete, welding, and other trade skills which will allow you to apply for a variety of entry-level jobs. You will build strength and endurance by doing aerobics and working out with weights, and by doing at least one hour of hard physical work each day. The Job/Life Skills classes will help you work on personal issues and learn how to get and keep a nontraditional job or apprenticeship. Graduates find their own jobs, assisted by ANEW’s Job Developer. The five months of training are meant to lead to your employment upon graduation—but getting a job or entering an apprenticeship depends on your own motivation and efforts. ANEW graduates are well prepared for entry-level (or higher, depending on experience) jobs in trades and industry. Graduates find the program a source of encouragement and positive support, as well as a source for job referrals. *GED OR DIPLOMA NOT REQUIRED TO APPLY * You must be 22 years old to apply.
