by Annette Lendrum On July 2 and 3, 1988, the Dawson Creek Seals Club hosted their 20th annual BCSSA Invitation- al Swim Meet at the Centennial Pool. Eight Cariboo region clubs participated in a total of 108 events. Each swimmer could register in amaximum of four indi- vidual events. _ Due to the holiday sea- son, only six Tumbler Ridge Orcas swimmers competed in this meet. Representing the Tumbler Ridge team were Billy Lendrum, Division 1, An- gie Lendrum, Division 2, Kyle Downing, Division 3, Angie Thorne, Division 5, ‘and Dan Douillard and Doug Hartford both Divi- sion 7 swimmers. This meet was the ’88 season premiere for the Tumbler Ridge team. Competition was fierce and furious for the young- er age divisions (1-3). lt may not be deep, big or fancy, but the Community Centre swimming pool is one Each of their events had 20 to 30 registered swim- mers, all vying for the seven best ‘‘final’’ quali- fying times! Congratulations team on your excellent per- formance! They advanced to the finals in 10 of the 16 total events entered. The Tumbler Ridge Orcas team accumulated a total of 34 aggregate points. The next smallest team with 16 swimmers and an aggregate score of 38 points was the Hudson’s Hope Piranhas Club. Doug Hartford captur- ed the silver medal for the Divison 7 individual ag- gregate points. Since our initial news- paper articles, the fund- raising portion of the Swim B.C. ’88 World Swim Challenge has con- cluded and four Orcas swimmers are now the proud owners of the Chal- lenge T-shirts. Club profits gained from this special event will be used to cover operating expenditures and a special surprise will be awaiting each of the swimmers who participated in the chal- lenge. : Due to technical prob- lems encountered with material availability, pro- duction line, and vacation schedules in Montreal, de- livery of our Speedo Or- cas Team Swimsuits has been temporarily delayed. The anticipated arrival date has been changed to the week of July 18 to 22. This season’s enroll- ment in the Tumbler Ridge Orcas Swim Club of the busiest places in Tumbler Ridge during the summer. Swim Club news includes 15 registered competitive swimmers and several non-competitive conditioning | members. This shows a positive in- crease over previous year’s records. Due to the short sum- mer swim club season and individual registration deadlines, no further com- petitive applications will be accepted for the 88 team. Thirteen Orcas swim- mers are registered to compete in the Prince George Pisces Invitational Swim Meet, to be held at the Four Seasons Pool on July 23 and 24. This meet will be the preparation stage for the upcoming Regional Championships to be held on August 6. and 7 in Quesnel.
