THE TUMBLER TIMES - PAGE @ SCOUTING AND THE TOWN SPIRIT Last weekend was a true illustration of the developing Tumbler Ridge spirit at work. One of the mining companies approa- ched a local contractor to have some cement sign bases built. The contractor felt the project was too small for them but suggested that the Scouts might be interested. The Scouts (all levels - Beaver, Cubs, Scouts, Rovers) need money to buy supplies and camping equipment and ultimately to establish camping facilities so they were definitely interested. The project was fairly simple: piling old tires, filling them with concrete and inserting rebar, to which a sign could be attached, so the Scouts accepted the offer. The first stop was Tumbler Brake and Wheel who donated all the old tires needed. Art Brochu, who is just opening a car wash, gave all the spare pipe he had and suggested various other sources. Rempel Concrete (Dave and Rolly) cooperatively agreed to pour concrete load-ends into the tire piles. The last stop was for rebar. People constructing basements not. only offered the short ends but volunteered to bend them as required. To complete the job, Mustang Construction offered to deliver the sign bases to the mine. Thus a short while after starting the project, and as a result of cooperative business people, the Scouting movement was able to raise $2000 - an impressive addi- tion to their funds. We believe that Tumbler Ridge has a solid base of business people who feel Tumbler Ridge is home. Let's support those people who, by their actions, show they are here to stay. L.
