He has been living in CATERER'S CORNER (Continued from Page 2) _have good time and so they ‘did. _ I have been trying to rescue my ferns this last couple of weeks. I’m ' probably the only person in | B.C. who has three Boston ‘ferns in the “bathtub. We _take turns - one shower for ‘them, one for me. I don’t know why everyone in the world but me can raise nice plants. Ihad my first experience ‘cooking real shrimp last "weekend. I bought these ‘shrimp last spring from Gordon, took them home, ‘looked at them and said “Good Lord!” They still ‘had the shells, crawlers ‘and like that. Never having ‘seen a real shrimp in my life I just dumped the little darlings back in the freezer ‘and left them thre. When ‘the urge for a feed of to ignore I decided to clean ungodly-looking creatures and produce some sort of shrimp dish. Actually it wasn’t too difficult once I got at it, but they looked so terrible even after the shells are off I cooked’ a~couple to make sure they were edible. They were absolutely deliciots so I parboiled a potful in salty water for 2 or 3 minutes. The next step was to cook some tomatoes, onions and green peppers to the crisp stage, add a few ounces of white wine, seasonings, the shrimp and then I thickened the sauce with a bit of cornstarch. We had this with a beef ten- derloin' (cooked whole wrapped in bacon) tossed salad and hot rolls. It made a lovely meal and I’m afraid all four of us are going to develop an ex- pensive habit. See you next week. VANCOUVER (CP) — A survey commissioned by the Restaurant and Food Services Association of B.C. shows most people are in favor of more liberal liquor laws, association spokesman Don Bellamy said Wednesday. The survey was in a $10,000 study done for the association by the firm of Laventhol and Horwath and aimed at recom- mending changes and improvements in B.C.’s liquor laws. A report on the study is expected to be presented to the provincial government within two weeks. The report is being completed at the same Craft show held in T.R. By Judy Reichert The first annual Craft and Gift Show was held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, November 25-27 at the banquet room, Tumbler Ridge Inn. TUMBLER RIDGE BUILDING MATERIALS LTD. Temporary Industrial Site, North of Post Office - Phone 242-4284 THE CHRONICLE - MOUNTAINEER, Tumbler Ridge, B.C., Wed., Nov. 30,1983 3 Liberal drinking laws wanted time as the government is launching its own study on possible changes and improvements to liquor laws in anticipation of the world transportation fair Expo 86. Consumer Affairs Minister Jim Hewitt an- nounced Tuesday that a consultant will be ap- pointed to carry out the study. Bellamy said Wednesday he could only talk about the report in general terms because it is still in draft form. It includes a comparison of how B.C. liquor laws stack up with those in other provinces and the U.S. and a survey of what British Columbians think about current liquor laws and how they should be changed. The survey, which covered a wide number of people in various areas of B.C., showed ‘‘a general consensus that there should be liberalization of the Liquor Act and_ the regulations pursuant to it,” Bellamy said. He said he couldn’t be specific about any par- ticular aspect of the law that people wanted changed, but noted that the restaurant association has known for some time that many people would like to be able to drink in a restaurant without eating. Bellamy said the com- parison of B.C. liquor laws with those elsewhere revealed that B.C. has many restrictions that other jurisdictions don’t. But B.C. also allows some things that others don’t — such as_ allowing restaurants with liquor licences to hire employees who are under the drinking age. The report will recom- mend that restaurants be allowed to serve liquor without food, and a change in the time period that establishments are allowed to serve liquor, he said. Under current laws, he said, establishments can only be open for serving liquor for a 14-hour period, and the latest that liquor can be served is 2 a.m. Bellamy said the 14-hour rule is acceptable, but the law should be changed so establishments can serve liquor later than 2 a.m. — for example, during the 14 hours between 2 p.m. and 4 a.m. Sere eee eee es soz (7h =. |= Home Hardware == CHETWYND HOME HARDWARE Complete Line of Hardware Sporting Goods Paints Sundries Hunting and Fishing Licenses Available. 788-2373 474] - 51st St. Chetwynd, B.C. eee se eee eee ee eee PEOPLE COME FIRST AT GROCERIES TABLERITE MEATS FRESH PRODUCE IN-STORE BAKERY Westgate’s IGA Chetwynd, B.C. 1] In June of 1984 there will be a special SOUVENIR ISSUE. printed on NORTHEST COAL & TUMBLER RIDGE ~ This issue will be a series of events from day one the first buildings , and contractors, the first families to move into Tumbler Ridge, the first) } } roads and businesses, featuring people and events. i j It will be a collection of memories that can be shared with friends and f/ relatives from near and far.
