41 TOOLS The Indian people made tools from materials that were available. Bones, shells, rocks and sticks were used to mike the equipment needed for hunting, fishing and food gatnering. George Mycrs, of Stone Reserve, reported that the Indians of Anaham Lake used ‘“‘black diamond” arrow heads and spear points for hunting before Europeans introduced gens. Pieces of “black diamond’”’ were obtained by building fires on the rocks of the “Black Diamond Mountain”, when the rocks became very hot, cold water was thrown on them causing a sudden temper- ature change which fractured the rocks. The small pieces of “black diamond” were used for axes, arrowheads and other hunting equipment.
