New health administrator by Nancy Perkins Ray Mabbett has taken over as the new Health Administrator at the Tumbler Ridge Health Centre, replacing George Hartford who retired. He arrived with his wife, Wendy, and their 2 year old daughter in early July. Mabbett previously liv- ed in Maple Ridge and was employed at the Brit- ish Columbia Institute of Technology in Burnaby as an Associate Dean. He was in charge of the Imaging Area on the cam- pus. This includes areas such as x-rays, nuclear medicine and ultra sound. When he began at BCIT he started in middle man- agement and worked his way to the upper level of management with com- plete budgetary freedom. He said that the financial and budgetary end of his work at BCIT has given him excellent experience for his new position as Administrator at the Health Centre. When asked, ‘‘Why Tumbler Ridge?’’ Mab- bett said that he has always enjoyed the field of health care and enjoys working in the field on a more personal level than he was able to in his position as Associate Dean. He said he enjoyed teaching and his work at BCIT, however, he looks forward to getting back to more of a hands-on ap- proach. Mabbett commented on the excellent attitude of the staff at the Health Centre and is delighted with the positive attitude of the board members. He feels they are an exciting board with an excellent and most positive outlook with one common goal, that being the best health care possible for Tumbler Ridge. : The major goal at hand for Mabbett is to see the Health Centre become ful- ly accredited. He has also begun to investigate the possibility of having avail- able, at least five hospital beds.
