DIRECTOR DEPLOYMENTS/INTERIM ASSIGNMENTS Our Deputy Minister has now approved this Region’s proposal for the HRCC Director selection and he has asked me to announce the deployments and assignments for each of our fifteen positions. As well as those Directors, I will also outline some other key assignments here at Regional Office. Let me begin with the EX 1, HRCC Director positions: Tenth Avenue - Bill Ross will be deployed to this HRCC but will be assigned to a role at RHQ which I will describe later in this note. As a result, Ted Lunny will be assigned to Tenth Avenue and will assume those responsibilities on 1 November 1995. Burnaby - Ted Lunny will be deployed to this HRCC but Linda Charles will be assigned as the interim Director while Ted is at Tenth Avenue. Linda will assume the responsibilities of the position on 1 November 1995. Surrey - This position is vacant and a competitive process will be required. Until staffing of this position is concluded. Mary Huitson will be assigned as the interim Director as of 1 November 1995. Abbotsford - This position is also vacant and will require a competition. Until that time, Drew Stewart will be assigned as the interim Director as of 1 November 1995. Kelowna - Mike Terris will be deployed to this position and will assume this role on 1 November 1995. Canada -2Prince George - This position is vacant as well. Martin Winkelaar is assigned as the interim Director as of 1 November 1995 until the staffing of this position is concluded. Nanaimo - Tim Brown will be deployed to this position and will assume this role on 1 November 1995 but will not report to Nanaimo until 1 February 1996. During this period, Ed Poli will fulfil the on-site responsibilities of the Director, in consultation with Jim Brown. Staffing of the three vacant positions will commence shortly, co-ordinated with our colleagues in the other western regions. A poster for these positions will be out in November, but the selection will not likely occur until early in 1996. The following are the PM6, HRCC Director deployments/assignments: Nelson - Mary Thomas will be deployed to the Director’s role and will assume this role on I November 1995 but will not report to Nelson until 15 January 1996. Until that time, Kim Bergh will fulfil the on-site responsibilities of the Director, in consultation with Mary Thomas. Kamloops - Al Thomas will be deployed to this position and will assume this role on 1 November 1995 and report to Kamloops on 1 April 1996. Until that time, Jack Fulton will fulfil the on-site responsibilities of the Director in consultation, with Al Thomas. Whitehorse - This position is vacant and will require a competition. Al Thomas will be assigned as the Director in Whitehorse as of 1 November 1995 until 1 April 1996 while a selection is being conducted. Terrace - This position is also vacant and will require a competition. Shirley Kimery will be assigned to the interim Director's role as of 1 November 1996 pending that selection. Saanich - Tom Dheensaw will be deployed to this position. Victoria - This position is currently vacant. .Andrew Lane is assigned as interim Director as of 1 November 1995 until the deployment exercise has been completed. Coquitlam - This position is currently vacant. Brent McIlveen is assigned as interim Director as of 1 November 1995 until the deployment exercise is completed. North Vancouver - This position is currently vacant. Terry Hiphner is assigned as Director as of 1 November 1995 until the deployment exercise is completed. The deployment selection has not been concluded for the above three locations (Victoria, Coquitlam, North Vancouver) due to insufficient time to conduct the process. Therefore, the interim assignments are being made to allow further time to conclude the deployments. I am pleased to also announce two key assignments to the executive team here at regional office. Firstly, Shirley Robertson has agreed to take on the assignment of the Director, Strategic - J - Services and External Relations leading the region’s partnership relationships, strategic planning and communications. Secondly, Bill Ross has accepted the role of Director, Program Services and Labour leading the program support for delivery in Insurance, HRIF and Labour. Both of these assignments will commence 1 November 1995. In order to provide adequate leadership, co-ordination and support to the Region from my office during this initial period, I have asked Steve Barnard to assist me as a Special Advisor on transition issues. On Friday of this week (3 November at 1:30pm), I intend to hold a conference call with all Managers to describe how I see the transition, in terms of the leadership of the HRCC’s, from our former structure to our new organization. I will also cover a number of other issues such as: • A Regional Management Board to replace the Regional Executive Committee. • A briefing on the discussions at the National Management Board meeting this week. In closing, I want to wish our colleagues success in these new and challenging assignments as we take one more step in building our new organization. W.D. Gardner
