It was a Firemen’s annual picnic by Nancy Perkins The Firemen’s annual picnic was held at Bull- moose Meadows on Sun- day, June 8, under sunny -skies. There was a_ fantastic turnout of the residents of Tumbler Ridge for the pic- nic, ; 2g By 2:00 p.m. the festivi- ties were in full swing for all those who wanted to get ‘into. the action. The re- mainder just. sat around relaxing afternoon. _ One section of the mead- ows was roped off for the children’s races. Everyone received a ribbon whether they were first or last in the races. Further out, there were baseball games in full swing all afternoon. Up near the pit there was also a horse shoe tournament go- ing on. Don and Dennis Powers came away winners of the horse shoe tourna- ment. The beer garden was = busy, but no one seemed to abuse the avail- ability of the ice cold beer. People lined up all day for the burgers, which were tasty. Later in the after- noon, ice cream was served to all those who wanted it. The Miss Teen Tumbler Ridge contestants were also on hand to help out with the children’s races. The Volunteer Firemen and their wives worked very hard all afternoon supervising the various ac- tivities. The food and beer garden were also run by the Record June 11, 1986. Mr. and Mrs. Rick Tait of the Volunteer Ambulance Group were present to as- sist with any injuries or scraped knees. Union negotiators await Quintette’s proposal On Friday, May 31, the United Steel Workers of Quintette Coal voted 97 percent in favor of strike. Following the results of the vote, the company re- _ quested that no action be taken before June 11. At that time, the company will present the union negotia- ting team with the com- pany’s proposals. - The union agreed to the company’s request and are now awaiting the proposals the company has to offer.
