Place - then the moment we had all been waiting for - The Queen spoke. However, it was all too brief, just an invitation to all the people of the world to visit Expo '86 in Vancouver. PROVINCIAL AMBULANCE SERVICE On January 13, 1983 the Tumbler Ridge Ambulance Service, sponsored by the Emergency Health Services Commission of British Columbia commenced. With the service, came a sparkling new 1982 Dodge Ambulance, equipped to handle five people and in extreme emergencies, six. It is designed and furnished to function effectively for anything from treating minor wounds to delivering a baby. For extreme winter conditions the ambulance is equipped with front and rear high-output heaters and for the summer months has separate front and rear air conditioning units. The radio is the scanner type, capable of putting an attendant in contact with the Victoria Emergency Health Services dispatch office in a matter of seconds. Arrangements for the assistance of a helicopter or fixed wing aircraft can be made in minutes. The Emergency Health Services supplies the training required to qualify the part-time crews as certified Emergency Medical Assistants. At present, the service is comprised of 7 two-person crews and 1 unit officer. The T.R. group consists of several highly qualified individuals, such as: - 2 are registered nurses - 2 are certified first aid instructors - 3 are qualified Emergency Medical Attendants - 1 is a certified rescue instructor -10 are certified Industrial First Aid Attendants These individuals have just completed an extensive couse in first aid and will be taking another in the near future to become qualified EMA 1's.
