Claims 2 lots of Ponhook Reserve illegally alienated in which a burial ground was alienated, desecrated and flooded. Claim also includes intermittent loss of use of 2 other lots and overall claim for breach of trust. Presented in 1978. Removal of squatters and restoration of lands conveyed to Canada in 1867 by S. Fairbanks. Under review by UNSI. Presented in 1973. Return of Validated by Justice; 3 lots of unsold surrendered ministerial decision to lands within Kejimkujik follow. National Park. Presented in 1973. Claims additional compensation for sale of timber resources on lands surrendered for leasing in 1908, surrender of timber taken 1917. Presented in 1973. Alleged that all surrenders taken between 1867 and 1960 are invalid. UNSI requested that these lands be returned to reserve status. Under review by UNSI. Presented January 1974. Under review. Seeks return of 80 9 ha. unsurrendered land at Ship Harbour and compensation for loss of us. Accepted for negotiation. Under review by Justice. A letter of validation was sent to Band by Minister on July 23, 1985. UNSI was asked by ONC June 1983 to pro- vide additional information required by Justice to allow them to provide an opinion. No response. Legal opinion received mid-September 1985 validating claim. Even though claim was previously rejected, recent research by ONC unco- vered new facts. ONC requested legal advice from Justice, April 1983. UNSI advised by ONC July 1974 that surrender requirements were met in all cases. UNSI filed additional legal arguments in 1981, which after review by Justice, were not accepted. UNSI asked more time to review the whole claim. Justice opinion sought, May 1975.
