- The Malcolm Isldnd Parent Teachers
Association at the-last -two meetings:- --
have diseussed the-possibility-of -
establishing a scholarship to be awarded
to a student graduating from grade 12
Malcolm Island School.

Most of the members are of the opinion
that it is a grand idea and everything
possible should be done to make it a
success. .

No definite run has so far been agreed
upon but it is felt that a minimum of
$100.00 could be a start. To raise funds
for this purpose various organizations
on the island will be asked to contribute.
Also individuals who may be interested.

At our n ext meeting on Friday, March
i3th the question will again be discussed.

- Mr. I Tarkanen captain of the

from a trip which they brought 5 logs _
and 1 mink fur, This trip was not as. good
as the one before. :

STUDENT'S ESSAY "BREAXWATER"

A breakwater is used to protect
ships in a harbour from storms. . It is
usualy built so as to protect the
‘harbours from storms in all. directions
Someplaces need no breakwaters
because they alresdy have a naru
natural harbours. ;

_ There are digferent kinds of

breakwaters as well. Some are
- Stationary and some are floating break
Waters. Some are made out of concrete

end rock and some are made by driving
plies into the bottom of the sea in a
Straight line close together. A solid
‘one, such as an earth or cement one

is best because! it oes doesnl not let-
any swell at-all enter in. <

The need for a breakwater in
Sointula is very great. There 5s one

here but it is a floating one and it

is not very good. Since there are

many boats uere, and the harbour isn’t
very goog, there should be one here. —
