Alderman Bobbie Cal- verley told Council this is an excellent opportunity for tourism for our area, adding that the Associa- tion hopes to bring whole- salers of packages into our area. Mayor Caisley said this should be refer- red to the Economic De- velopment Committee. The Tumbler Ridge Family Support Society informed Council the So- ciety would be relocating at 115 Valleyview Cres- cent, in a house from Quintette Coal. They re- quested that the lot be rezoned as a Family Re- source Centre. Tony Goode told Coun- cil the house had been ' offered by Quintette for the same rental fee as the office they now use in the Community Centre, where they are very short of space. The house loca- tion will give them the added space to better ful- fill their mandate within the community. A motion was carried to move forward with the necessary work to rezone the lot on Valleyview. A letter from the Tum- bler Ridge Inn requested Council’s support for a beer and wine store to be located in the old Tumbler Ridge Restaurant space. Southard said she would like more information on the hours it would be open. Davies made a motion that Council support the application for the beer and wine store. Monthly staff reports were received. Davies complemented Greg Wiens and the Public Works Department on the excellent job they did this summer. Fire Chief, John Wyatt, discussed the problems the Fire Department is having with their communica- tions systems, specifically with the deterioration of the main signal from Quintette’s main gate of- fice that causes poor voice message signals. Wyatt said the repeater system on Spieker Mountain has failed. He added, the weak signal from Quin- tette can be rectified with a higher antenna. After extensive discus- sion it was agreed Wyatt would speak with Quin- tette for permission to install a higher antenna and ask them about using space in their mountain top structures for another repeater system. Wyatt will also investigate the cost of new equipment for a repeater system and report back to Council. By-law #180, a by-law for Leasing Property to the Grizzly Valley Saddle Club received final read- ing. Alderman Calverley told Council that Tumbler Ridge hosted its first bus — load of overnight tourists. Calverley also noted this would be her last Council meeting as she is moving to Vancouver Is- land. She said it has been a privilege to work as an alderman and has enjoyed it very much. Mayor Caisley noted that Council has been fortunate to be a recipient of Calverley’s energy, spe- cifically in the area of Tourism. He thanked- Cal- verley for her work and involvement both in Council and in other as- pects of the community. A motion was passed that in light of the coal arbitrations, Council ap- prove a further extension of the agreement of sale and purchase between the District of Tumbler Ridge and Kelly Douglas to De- cember 31, 1988. This motion is in reference to the planned expansion of Super Valu that was put on hold due to the perceiv- ed uncertainty of Tumbler Ridge. Mayor Caisley reported’ to Council the positive _ results of the reward sys-' tem, for the reporting of - willful and malicious damage. He said that youths were observed causing willful damage to an area of fencing and the incident was reported. The information given al- lowed the culprits to be apprehended. A_ reward will be given to those who reported the incident. Caisley also indicated that restitution will be made for the incident. He added that this shows that rewards for information leading to apprehension of offenders is a positive step that does work. a G 4h rs pte eéling! « ) | | | Weekly Record 242-4789 | Church Calendar Alliance Church 11 a.m. - Worship Service (Sunday) 9:45 a.m. - Sunday School Evening Service - 6 p.m. (Sunday) Room 4 & 5 Community Centre Pastor Bill Cook 242-3196 Fellowship Baptist Church Church Service 9:30 a.m. tI” BOARD Weekly Record 242-4789 The ‘‘Heart’’ of any community is its volunteers.
