PLEASE CARRY OUT ML YOUR GARBAGE! ! , TUMBLER POINT A 1.5 - 2 hour stroll ind offers spectacular views of Flatbed reek, the Murray River, the Quintette jine site and Mt. Bergeron. The trail tarts from behind Bergeron Drive, follows cart track for 1 km, then on to a game trail out to the point. Its easy walking ail the way, and suitable for family oups. (3.5 km return). ), TUMBLER RIDGE A more vigorous hike to the “Summit of Tumbler Ridge, which takes 5 - 2.5 hours return time. Great views if the Tumbler townsite and surrounding region. Go up the old cutline south of the water reservoir off the Heritage High- wy. When you get to the top turn left or right to the alternative summits. }, FLATBED FALLS - A short walk to an interesting falls and beaver pond area just outside of town. Park about halfway bween Mackenzie Way and the Heritage Highway, and walk down the steep bank towards Flatbed Creek. You'll see the beaver ponds from the edge of the road; just beyond these is the falls on Flatbed treek. A good spot for a picnic, but be cautious at high water times. Wildlife may be observed here, including © nose, beaver, Canada geese, and others: PLEASE don't disturb - walk around the ponds to minimize damage to this fragile environment. 1, FLATBED CREEK - A 1-2 hour walk start- ing from the same place as the Tumbler Mint trail. Turn left on the old cart track and head down on to the Flatbed (reek floodplain. An old trail leads right down to the creek, and several pleasant meadows are crossed on route. THE TUMBLER TIMES - PAGE 10 5. BULLMOOSE RIDGE - Drive out on the Chetwynd Highway to a point just after the Wolverine River bridge, about 6 km out- side town. The open ridge on the right has a road angling up the hill; follow this, and take the first right junction out to a viewpoint overlooking the Murray River. Good views of Tumbler Ridge. The old cart track goes to a small pond about 500 yards away. JOGGING TUMBLER POINT - Tired of jogging in a dust cloud? Iry running out to the end of Tumbler Point. About 30-45 minutes return on flat open terrain, with good footing. You can start the run from your home or apartment to make it longer. There are also old cart tracks on the Murray River floodplain which provide good jogging routes. PICNICING All. of the walking and hiking trails described would make a pleasant outing if combined with a picnic lunch. There are some flat open meadows on the Murray River floodplain, good for picnics and informal ball or frisbee. Check the map for details. For an afternoon weekend trip consider Gwillam Lake - 40 km north on the Chetwynd Highway. There are picnic tables, a rough boat launch, and primitive toilet facili- ties. Watch for sudden high winds on the lake if you're boating. Swimming is only possible in some locations if the weather happens to be fairly hot! PLAYFIELDS, BALL DIAMONDS, OUTDOOR VOLLEY- BALL The Tumbler Ridge staff are now in the process of preparing playfield facilities for the summer seasons.
