tf am a fourth, year student in Sociology, pian to do graduate work in that field and then study Law. I participated recently in the preparation of the first Working Paper on Matrimonial Property for the B.C. Commission on Family and Children's Law. My academic work has focused on the study of woman's economic and social position in Canada and I am active in the Women's Movement. My interest in serving as a student senator is directly related to my concern with the status of women at Sef.U. There is one woman on the Board of Governors and of thirty-nine senators, only one iS a woman. Women need increased representation and participation in governance of the University. The Senate should be encouraged to: (1) establish an interdisciplinary women's studies program 5 (2) inerease the number of woman graduate students (683 men - 129 women); (4) increase financial aid for part—time students to enable more women to attend S.F.U.; (4) increase its sensitivity and responsiveness to the needs and priorities of women students. To this end, senate should be encouraged to take alfirmative action to: (1) increase the number of women on faculty (323 men - 41 women) and senior administrative positions; | (2) to eliminate salary and rank differences based on Sex. Other high priorities should be: (1) increased Canadian content in curriculum; (2) more Canadian faculty; (3) decentralization of power, and (4) increased responsiveness of the University to the needs of the community - Dana Janssén
