The room was decorat-' ed with balloons of navy blue, pale blue and white, signifying the school col- ors. One wall was decorat- ed in scrolls with each grad’s name. Tables were already set awaiting the | grad’s dinner. Each had named place tags with a | minature grad cap. The theme and song for _ the graduation class was Thinking About Years. Schools, Mr. Brown, | school board trustee, Mr. Corkan, chairman of the school board and Tumbler Ridge Trustee, and princi- pal Walter Hogg were among the speakers for the evening, offering con- gratultions and words of advise. Valedictorian Michelle Davies spoke on the theme of the 1988 graduating class—Thinking About The Years. She recalled being among the 13 grads who first began in the modular school and of some of the many teachers who had made positive and lasting effects on the students. The Commissioners Shield and Scholarship of $250 was awarded to Julie Crooks, Pat Walsh pre- sented the award. The Teachers Associa- tion Scholarship valued at $350 was presented to Bryn Watson by Leon Lipetx. The Quintette Coal Scholarship was presented by John Sanders and a- warded to Bryn Watson. This is a four year scholar- ship. of $750. The Tumbler Ridge Community Arts Scholar- ship for $500 was awarded to Michelle Davies, Rose- mary McDowell made the lt was apparent these graduating girls all had different thoughts running through presentation. The Tumbler Postal Employees Schol- arship valued at $400 was awarded to Debbie La- londe, Suzanne Peters made the presentation. Frank Moffatt present- ed the United Steel Work- ers $500 scholarship to Rick Ball. The Tumbler Ridge Li- ons Club Bursary-Schol- arship was awarded to Michelle Davies, Clay Thompson made the pre- sentation. The QCL Recreation Association Scholarship was presented by Eric Spears and awarded to Kerry Harvey. The Principals Award of $250 was presented by Walter Hogg and awarded to Dale Neufeld. Following a brief break after the ceremonies, the grads, their guests, and parents enjoyed dinner in the gymnasium. The grad- uation dance followed dinner before everyone broke for a change into casual clothes and headed out to the Fireman’s pic- nic grounds for the grad party. The busy night ended with a grad break- fast. Special thanks must be given to all the parents and volunteers who pro- vided rides to and from the grad party.
