RAP - the Registered Apprenticeship Program - is a modified apprenticeship program that permits a high school student to become an apprentice while attending high school. A RAP apprentice accumulates hours of on the job training as credit toward his or her apprenticeship, and credit toward a high school diploma, or certificate of achievement. > Why RAP? • Skilled tradespeople are in short supply. A RAP apprentice begins learning a skilled trade. • RAP gives employers an opportu nity to find quality young employ ees, and to participate in their educational process. • RAP allows students to stay in school while starting a career, and provides an opportunity for them to "earn while they learn." • RAP offers an enriched high school education and provides an opportunity to learn the skills industry needs. A RAP apprentice gets a realistic view of the work world and learns market able skills. RAP is a way for students to obtain quality training, and for employers to obtain quality young apprentices. How much time does a RAP Apprentice spend "on the job"? The hours of work are determined by the employer, the student and the school.
